Google Introduces Ads in AI Overviews

Google is now weaving ads directly into its AI-generated search experiences, such as AI Overviews and a new feature called AI Mode on desktop. These updates, rolled out in May 2025, represent a major evolution in how Google monetizes search.

Ads are selected for AI Overviews based on existing campaign data—like keywords and user intent—but currently, advertisers can't target AI placements specifically. While this may offer broader reach, some marketers worry that AI-generated summaries might reduce clicks by giving users complete answers without needing to visit websites.


Google is also expanding automation with new creative tools like Imagen and Veo to streamline ad production, hinting at a more automated, AI-led future for digital advertisers.
